If you had told me at age 30 that I would enjoy a 40+ year stint as an insurance agent, I would have laughed at the idea. After all, I was a very successful executive in the automotive aftermarket industry, with great prospects of owning a chain of auto parts stores in Texas and surrounding states. But, as they say, the Lord works in mysterious ways and a chain of seemingly unrelated events led me to my first contract with The Bankers Life of Des Moines (now Principal Financial Group) in the middle of 1983.

I soon discovered that my new career had meaning beyond just putting bread on my family’s table, that my work with my prospective clients could bring them a great sense of security, knowing that their family and their business were going to survive even if they didn’t.

Over the years the focus of my work changed, from life insurance and retirement plans to a holistic look at all the perils that face a small businessperson; fire, theft, windstorm, disability, medical emergency, and all the slings and arrows of modern life, but the satisfaction that I derive from helping my clients defend against these events has only deepened and strengthened.

Today, I am proud of the good work that our agency has done for our clients and am looking forward to the next chapter of this grand story.
